History

According to the 'historians' at Harvey's Pub, Ellis was the center of the region - with focus on St. Martin's Church. Its influence extended north into Bevent, the south to Almond, the west past Stevens Point, and east into Rosholt and Amherst.

Ellis, in its pioneer days, was a very "rough and tumble" place. Local lore includes that church officials were displeased with the violence and barbaric behavior of early pioneers in the taverns, so some had split and vacated Ellis to move to Polonia, about 1½ mile to the east.
